Games Information

PURPOSE
The purpose and/or purposes for which the games were organized is to promote participation in athletic competition by members of the law enforcement and fire fighting community, to promote physical fitness, a spirit of benevolence, friendship, sportsmanship, good will and camaraderie among law enforcement and fire fighting officers, and to promote good will between the community and law enforcement and fire fighters.

ENTRY FEE
Entry fees: $40.00. This fee is per person for your primary sport and all events within that sport. Each additional sport is a $5.00 fee. All fees must accompany the registration form and be received by June 1, 2006. Payment must be made by CHECK, BANKDRAFT, or MONEYORDER.
EACH COMPETITOR must submit a Registration Form, including all team members and coach. No entry fee is required for a NON-PLAYING COACH. The entry fee includes a T-shirt (indicate size on Registration Form).

TEAM ENTRY FEES:
Softball - $300.00
Basketball - $300.00


EACH TEAM MEMBER must fill out and sign a Registration Form. Only the team captain needs to fill out the team roster. All team members' registration forms must be sent in together with the proper team entry fee. If any team member wishes to compete in another sport, he/she must fill out a separate registration form and submit the proper entry fees ($40.00 for one sport plus $5.00 for each additional sport).

ELIGIBILITY
A) Each competitor must be a sworn full time law enforcement/peace officer, full time correctional officer, certified firefighter, or a retired law enforcement officer, correctional officer, or firefighter to compete in the Police & Fire competition.
B) Coaches are eligible to receive medals, provided they meet the same requirements as all other entrants and register in the same manner, including entry fee.
C) Security guards, police cadets, police students, auxiliary and reserve officers, and volunteer firefighters are NOT eligible to compete in the Police & Fire competition but can enter the civilian competition (Southeastern Sports Championships).

MILITARY PERSONNEL
Military personnel must be assigned a primary military occupational specialty (MOS) or skill designator as law enforcement or firefighter personnel. Military personnel must be assigned to a law enforcement or firefighter unit and meet the above listed eligibility requirements.

RULES OF CONDUCT
No person shall act in any way that may be considered to bring discredit upon their profession. Competitors in violation of this policy shall be subject to immediate disqualification
and revocation of all entry fees.

DRUGS
Illegal or performance enhancing drugs shall not be used by competitors. COMPETITORS MAY BE TESTED!

AGE
The following age categories apply for both male and female:
Category 1: Open
Category 2: 30 to 39 yrs.
Category 3: 40 to 49 yrs.
Category 4: 50 yrs. & Over
Note: There are special age categories for some sports.
A) Age is determined at first day of games (June 1, 2007).
B) Team members will compete at age of youngest member.
C) A competitor may enter only one age category in an event. Competitors may enter only one age, weight or height category in any event. Competitors may not compete in two age groups in the same event, i.e. open singles golf and senior singles golf.

LATE REGISTRATIONS
After June1, 2007 no applications will be accepted, unless the competitor can be added to their event without disrupting the process.
SUBSTITUTIONS
A) Substitutions must register at the Registration Center.
B) All substitutes must meet the same requirements as the original entrants.
C) Once competition has commenced in an event, substitutions cannot be made.

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF COMPETITORS
There are no limits as to the number of competitors who may compete from any agency, state, province or country in any sport, unless otherwise stated in the sport rules. If a limit is set in a particular sport or event it will be FIRST COME FIRST SERVED.
 

MINIMUM NUMBER REQUIRED TO HOLD AN EVENT
Any sport, event, class or division which has fewer than three (3) entrants registered will not be held.
Note: Options in changes in individual age, weight and height categories will be noted on the registration form before an event is cancelled. If three (3) or more competitors are pre-registered in any event, competition will be staged and medals will be awarded, regardless of the number of competitors present at the start of the event, unless the competitor prefers to compete in a lower age, taller height, or heavier weight category.

BRACKETING WEIGHT SPORTS
In weight class sports, competitors will weigh in prior to their events. After weigh-in, competitors will be
bracketed according to their actual weight.

UNIFORMS
Sports apparel must be clean and designed and worn so as not to make an indecent display of the competitor's person. It shall be the duty of the coordinator at the sport site to determine if each competitor is properly attired for their given event.

FEMALE EVENTS
With the exception of contact sports, women may compete with men in all events that do not have specific categories for women.

PROTESTS
Protests pertaining to matters which occur during an event must be immediately brought to the attention of the event coordinator at the event site. The official will make a ruling using A.P.F.G. Rules and the rules of the sports governing body, i.e. T.A.C., N.R.A., I.P.F., etc. Note: A.P.F.G. rules supersede any other governing body. If a protest requires additional investigation and the situation so allows, the competitor will be allowed to compete under protest until such time as a determination is made. If awards are affected, no medals will be awarded until a final determination has been made. Protests against an officials' decisions or against what is believed to be an improper situation must be made through the event coordinator who will in turn refer such protests to the A.P.F.G. Protest Committee or its designee for a ruling.

FORFEITS
Forfeit times will be adhered to as per the governing or ruling body. An athlete may enter as many different sports as he/she desires. However, the athlete is responsible for being on time at the designated competition site prior to the commencement of competition or suffer disqualification. Compliance with this section is required to allow coordinators to expedite the competition with a minimum of inconvenience to the majority of the competitors.

AWARDS
Awards will be given to the first three finishers of each event and in each age, weight and height division. For example, if two people tie for first place, the two that tied for first place will receive gold medals and the third finisher will receive a bronze medal. If two people tie for second place, there will be no bronze medal awarded. All gold medal winners will also receive a special winner's cap. Any person that sets a new game's record will receive a game's watch.
